I was responsible for lighting all levels in Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss by Sarepta Studio. This is a selection of screenshots from the non-sunken version of the ship. For the intro section the main focus was making the ship feel inviting and homelike, almost nostalgic. I also got to light some of the same areas for flashback scenes, aiming for a darker mood. The scenes in Bailey's boat are set after the ship sank, and have a colder daytime look to emphasize the feeling of loss. In all scenes we aimed for a slightly stylized, painterly look.
I also created custom materials for fake volumetric light beams, as well as environmental particle effects.
Huge thanks to the rest of the team for creating so many beautiful locations to light:
Josef Najjar - Head of 3D, as well as lots of guidance on improving the lighting and moods.
Kjartan Widerøe Forthun - Art director
Klas Lothe - Technical 3D Artist
Reidun Rian - Texture artist
Stian Røbergeng - Level designer
